STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER: A MUSICAL THEATER SONG CYCLE
"Strong Female Character” is a musical theater song cycle that takes fictional female characters—like Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz and Marge Gunderson from Fargo—out of the context of their original stories and re-imagines them with new storylines and musical numbers.
What song would Dorothy Gale be singing if she were still living with Aunt Em and Uncle Henry at age 39? What kinds of investigations was Marge Gunderson up to at age 10? Just a couple of the questions explored in this musical theater meets feminist-take-on-pop-culture mashup!
Other characters featured: Princess Leia (Star Wars), Ana García (Real Women Have Curves), Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games), Esther & Mayme (Intimate Apparel), Bridget Jones (Bridget Jones' Diary), Veronica Sawyer (Heathers), and Hermione Granger (Harry Potter).
